Suryanarayan Subramanian

Suryanarayan Subramanian (Surya Subramanian) is on the Board of the Bank since June 5, 2026.

Surya Subramanian is having over 35 years’ experience in Banking and Finance, primarily in South East Asia, the Far East and the Middle East with major international banks covering various CFO roles in geographic and business structures across Wholesale Banking, Retail and Wealth Management. In his last role prior to retirement in February 2020, Surya Subramanian was the Group Chief Financial Officer for Emirates NBD, one of the largest financial institutions in the Middle East. Surya Subramanian also had a brief joint stint with the Ministry of Finance, Singapore and Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority in Singapore supporting the development and supervision of accounting standards.

Currently, he is an Independent Board member and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee at Spinneys, a leading upmarket grocery chain in the U.A.E. Spinneys also manages the Waitrose franchise in Dubai. He is also an Independent board member and member of the Risk Committee and Strategy & Investment Committee at Odea Bank in Turkey, a recent ADQ acquisition. In other governance roles, he is an Independent member of the Audit & Risk Committee at Dubai Holding and also chairs, as an independent, the Audit & Risk Committee at Americana Restaurants International PLC a listed entity in the UAE and at Kuwait Food Company (Americana). Together they form the largest food company in the Middle East with verticals managing global fast food franchises and frozen / canned food production.

In other roles, he has been a past member of the IFRS Advisory Council that supports the IASB and the IFRS Committee Foundation during which phase he has been involved in the development and discussions related to key accounting standards. Past directorships include Network International Holdings PLC, a FTSE250 company and DXB Entertainments a listed entity in the UAE and Damac Real Estate Development Ltd. In the course of his career Surya Subramanian has had experience in listing / delisting companies; banking acquisitions in London, UAE, Egypt and Turkey working with private equity firms, public investors and private owners.

Surya Subramanian is a Chartered Accountant from India and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors), Kolkata University.
